We've crossed the US-Canada border 8 times in our van, with our dog

We live in a converted campervan with our Australian cattle dog, so we travel with all of our belongings at any given time. And I can be pretty anxious about the idea of strangers coming into my home.

I first published this post in July 2023 and last updated it a year later, in July 2024.

We crossed the border between the United States and Canada four times last year and another four this year. We live in a converted Ram Promaster campervan with our Australian cattle dog, so we travel with all of our belongings at any given time. And I can be pretty anxious about the idea of strangers coming into my tiny home!

Here’s how we prepared to go through the border checkpoints—and what each individual border crossing experience was like. (Spoiler alert: Getting between the two countries has been so much easier than I imagined.)
