Before I started learning about dogs, I would have never imagined that there was so much controversy over flexi leashes.

At some point in my life, they seemed to have popped up and become the latest popular fad among the dog owners. To me (and many others) who weren’t thrilled about having a strange dog run up to us and get in our space, flexis were pretty annoying because a lot of irresponsible dog owners let their dogs do just that.

Of course, then there were also the people who would actually hit the button to lock the leash when they were near other people.

I spent a lot of years of my life confused as to why everyone didn’t seem to know that button exists.

How many leashes does a dog need?

We started using a retractable leash with Scout about a year and a half after we adopted her. Before that, we basically only used a standard six foot leash. Occasionally, we would use a long line to give her a little more freedom if we had an open, empty space.
