How did you get your dog to indicate on the measuring spoon in the beginning? I feel like if my dog touches the article and I say yes (our marker word), his little head is going to pop right up. Any advice or guidance?
Hi Kristel! Popping up is exactly what I wanted when I'd give Scout our terminal marker (also yes). To help her learn that indicating on the article was the desired behavior, we'd reward successive approximations in the box—so if she moved her nose near it, she got more kibble more quickly (think a handful) than if her nose was on the other side. Session by session she picked it up!
