Ever since moving to Florida, we’ve visited our families in Wisconsin for the holidays. In 2020 and 2021 we broke each direction of the trip into two days and snagged an Airbnb somewhere in Tennessee for some sleep. This past year we decided try to save some time by driving through the night.

Here’s how it went and what we did to set Scout up for success!

Why did we decide to drive through the night?

We never felt like we got much rest when we stopped on previous trips

After making the cross-country drive between our Wisconsin hometowns and our new Florida residence five times (once each when we first moved, then there and back on each holiday visit) Sean and I realized we weren’t getting much rest even when we booked an Airbnb or hotel.

We’d usually arrive close to midnight after a long day of driving, get into bed for five or six hours, likely struggle to sleep in an unfamiliar place, and then be back on the road early the following morning. It didn’t seem worth it for the price of a roo…
