Why my dog doesn’t wear a collar indoors

Our cattle dog, Scout, almost never wears a collar indoors. We’ve decided that the risks of her wearing something around her neck 24/7 outweigh the benefits—so in our personal situation we opt for a “naked” dog whenever she’s in our apartment.

I’m more concerned about Scout’s collar getting caught in something than I am about her getting out without identification.
According to an NAVC survey, 91% of veterinarians say they see multiple dogs strangled or injured by their collars each year. It’s difficult to know the exact statistics—some incidents aren’t reported, while others are fatal—but I could definitely see my nervous cattle dog freaking out if her collar got caught on her crate or in a vent.
